The season on Lent is here. Many people observe this season and do so in a variety of ways. What is Lent? It is a season in the Christian church, in which people reflect and self assess. Lent is based on the time when Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days and was tempted. Many Christians observe Lent by giving up something such as soda or chocolate. However, in recent years, many look towards volunteering or giving of themselves for others. This year, I plan to jump into Lent with a love list. Join me for #40daysoflove.
Love List Idea
Recently, I read Your Modern Family’s post, Best Lent Ideas. I loved the post and Becky’s 10 out of the box ideas. I wanted to explore and implement something new instead of giving up the usual chocolate or coffee. Don’t get me wrong- giving up something is difficult, especially when temptation is everywhere. Try giving up chocolate or candy when half your class gives you chocolate for Valentine’s Day!
Becky’s post had some great ideas, some of which helped to serve others in some capacity. Other ideas, helped to not only help yourself, but help others in the process. An example is #2- “Throw Away 40 Things for 40 Days”. This is a great idea because you are not only removing unnecessary/unused things from your life, but donating these items to others for their needs or use.
Overcome Lent Challenges with a Love List
The most difficult challenges on Becky’s list were numbers 4 and 10, which are No gossiping and no complaining. While I plan to be mindful and work hard to not gossip or complain, I decided to take these ideas one step further: 40 Days of Love.
When deleting gossip and complaining from your life, you are helping yourself be a better person. But, just HOW do you go about this? Each day, I plan to post something I love, then when I get caught up with complaining or want to say something negative about someone, I will turn to my love post. The post itself is somewhat like a gratitude list; however, instead of just listing what I grateful for, I will USE something off the list to keep my focus of the day.
What does my Love List look like?
Watch my Instagram feed each day except Sunday’s for my Love List. #40daysoflove is my hashtag for my observation of the season of Lent. I am using my every day life and my Simple Prayer Journal to create my daily post. Since my post is visual, it will allow me to scrapbook daily memories to help inspire and share love with everyone.
Hope you find my #40daysoflove toad-ally awesome and inspirational as I try to spread a message of love.
